Cokeville, Wyoming | Hidden Gems and Mountain Wildflowers


When I started my Wyoming Travel Series, my goal was to explore the towns and places that make Wyoming unique, not just the destinations everyone already knows. Cokeville, Wyoming, was one of those stops that reminded me why I love exploring the less traveled roads.

Located in southwest Wyoming near the Idaho border, Cokeville is a small town surrounded by wide open landscapes, ranch land, and beautiful mountain views. It has a quiet charm that feels different from Wyoming’s busier destinations. There are no large crowds or busy attractions, just a peaceful community and the kind of scenery that makes you want to slow down and take it all in.

One of my favorite parts about visiting Cokeville was starting my day at the Gold Buckle Grill. After a long drive exploring the area, it was the perfect place to stop, enjoy a great meal, and experience that welcoming small-town atmosphere Wyoming is known for. Sometimes the best travel memories happen around a table, sharing good food before heading out for the next adventure.

But the biggest surprise came just 30 miles up the mountain.

As I continued exploring, the landscape completely transformed. What started as a quiet Wyoming town turned into a mountain escape filled with wildflowers, fresh air, and some of the most beautiful scenery I had seen. It felt like finding a hidden piece of Wyoming that many people never get to experience.

From a photographer’s perspective, this area was a dream. The combination of mountain views, colorful wildflowers, and untouched landscapes created endless opportunities to capture the beauty of the area. There is something special about photographing places that feel natural and unexpected, where every turn brings a new view.

One of the best things about visiting Cokeville is that the adventure continues beyond the town itself. The nearby mountains offer scenic drives, wildlife, hiking, and seasonal wildflowers that make the journey just as memorable as the destination.

Cokeville may not be one of Wyoming’s most famous towns, but that is exactly what makes it special. It is a reminder that some of the best travel experiences come from taking the scenic route, stopping at small town restaurants, and exploring the places you never expected to find.

Sometimes the hidden gems are the ones you remember the most.
